Trevor Bauer Calls Ken Rosenthal “National Gossip Blogger”
April 9, 2021Pitching Battle Favors The Dodgers As They Win Home Opener
April 10, 2021From Julio Urias’ last pitch on October 27th until now, I haven’t been able to fully settle with the idea that the Dodgers are World Series champions. Even after watching millions of clips from the incredible postseason run, and reminiscing numerous times with friends, it didn’t do the trick. During the World Series ring ceremony today, it didn’t ultimately feel real because I never got to hear real crowd roaring at Chavez Ravine.
Hearing the collection of congratulatory echoes when it was Clayton Kershaw’s turn to collect the hardware was when it finally hit me.

It was more than typical fan adulation. That glorious roar could only be manufactured from watching a decade of mosaic regular seasons being recycled into painful defeats. Just a proud bear hug from everyone that bleeds blue saying ‘you finally did it and we thank you for that’. A genuinely awesome moment that will be reminisced upon for generations to come.
While every player was greeted with a warm welcome, Mookie’s stood out as well.

It’s a testament to how strange life has become that this is the first time he’s received applause from fans even though he was acquired over a year ago. Craziest part? There is still a decade left for Andrew Freidman and Stan Kasten to dap him up and hand over some ice. Ah yes the glorious ice, but before getting to that I must address the star of the day: Bronson Arroyo.

This next sentence feels like a Mad Lib. Former MLB starter and World Series winner, Bronson Arroyo, compared Walker Buehler to Mike Leake and then serenaded Buehler with a personal rendition of Wonderwall by Oasis. I think the best part was him saying “I love you” at the end. This was not a spur of the moment “I love you” between two dudes that are drunk outside of a bar at 2 a.m. You just say it because it feels right and the words naturally ascend out of your mouth.
This was the polar opposite of that. Bronson Arroyo’s “I love you” with a deathly stare into the camera was alarmingly creepy. I’m getting vibes of an ex-boyfriend who has been following his former partner around everywhere, and at wit’s end utters those three words as a final attempt to get him/her back. Usually the next event is a restraining order. Poor Beuhler, man. I just imagine him acting like Wayne in Wayne’s World when his crewmate Terry can’t stop saying “I love you”. This completely trumps Ken Griffey Jr. imitating Joe Kelly’s go cry about it face when he was introducing him.
Now back to the star of the show, the ring. What a truly majestic piece of jewelry that could hypnotize you if you looked at it for longer than 10 seconds. Michael Duarte of NBC reported that it is composed of:
“14-karat white and yellow gold with diamonds and sapphires. In total, the Dodgers 2020 World Series rings feature approximately 222 round diamonds, 10 princess-cut diamonds, 45 custom-cut genuine sapphires, and eight round genuine sapphires. The ring weighs an astonishing 11 carats.”
The amount of detail is just jaw dropping and this will be the closest the Padres ever get to a World Series ring.
I’ve always had an affinity for Southern Trap artist’s jewelry. But this will forever top anything I’ve ever seen. Gucci Mane’s Bart Simspon or T-Pain’s Big A** Chain (literally) are no match for what Andrew Friedman and Stan Kasten handed over today.
From Magic Johnson, Jaime Jarrin, Billie Jean King, and Mayor Eric Garcetti collectively raising the flag in center field to the fighter jets that broke sound waves, it was a pretty great day to bleed blue. Now time to repeat.
