Tanner Scott, the most dominant reliever in free agency, is nearing a decision on his next team, with reported interest from the Dodgers, Cubs, and others as he aims to capitalize on back-to-back seasons leading all relievers in key metrics like fWAR and WPA.

According to MLB Network’s JP Morosi, Tanner Scott, the premier reliever in this year’s MLB free agency, could decide which team he’ll join as early as this weekend. The Dodgers, widely regarded as frontrunners for Scott, remain firmly in the mix, with mutual interest reported throughout the offseason.

Scott, a left-handed high-leverage arm, has led all MLB relievers in fWAR and WPA over the past two seasons. His elite ability to escape jams is unmatched, as shown by his league-leading WPA+ and top-three ranking in ERA-, shutdown innings, and hard-hit rate against. This dominance has made him the most sought-after reliever on the market.

The Dodgers’ offseason has already been eventful, highlighted by the signing of Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki. Adding Scott to their bullpen could further cement Los Angeles as World Series favorites. The team’s interest in Scott aligns with their focus on bolstering the back end of their bullpen.

Other teams, including the Cubs, have shown interest in Scott. However, the Mets, who recently signed AJ Minter, are reportedly out of the running. Industry insiders estimate Scott’s market value at $13–16 million per year, though his camp is reportedly pushing for $20 million annually.

For the Dodgers, signing Scott would check another box, which has been packed with high-profile acquisitions. With several multiyear offers on the table, Scott’s decision could set the tone for the team he joins.

Will the Dodgers land the top reliever in free agency? As Scott narrows his options, all eyes are on Los Angeles to see if they can secure the final piece of their championship puzzle.
