Catching You Up With The Last Two Days Of Dodgers News

The whole team has reported and conducted it’s first full-squad workout of 2020. So, here’s a brief overview of what’s been reported in the last couple of days to get you caught up with the going-ons in Camelback Ranch.

Monday

  • Walker Buehler and Tony Gonsolin kicked off the first live batting practice among the major leaguers. Kenley Jansen, Blake Treinen, Joe Kelly, Scott Alexander, Caleb Ferguson, Victor Gonzalez, Brusdar Graterol, and minor leaguers Josiah Gray, and Jordan Sheffield threw bullpen sessions.
  • Former Dodgers pitching coach, now special assistant, Rick Honeycutt arrived at the ranch to work primarily with the minor leaguers.
  • Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner were the most vocal in their contempt with the Astros cheating as well as how MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred, handled the scandal.
  • The Dodgers signed outfielder Terrance Gore to a minor league deal with a big-league invite in spring training. Gore is not known for his bat but more for his speed and defense.

Tuesday

  • Dustin May (side) and Jimmy Nelson (lower back) are still recovering from minor injuries sustained this past weekend.
  • Dave Roberts recognizes that the players might be unhappy with their amount of playing time this season but continues to advocate a team-first mindset which he believes the players will follow.
  • Team president and part-owner, Stan Kasten, addressed the team before workouts. He emphasized with the team’s sentiment towards the Astros scandal but asked that they try to move on. Doc said he “echoed” the same feelings.
  • Julio Urias, Pedro Baez, and David Price threw bullpen sessions.
  • Alex Wood faced Cody Bellinger, Mookie Betts, and Corey Seager in live batting practice. Dodgers Baseball ops president jokingly said, “whoever set that up clearly doesn’t like Alex Wood.”
  • Former top prospect pitcher Yadier Alvarez, who’s on the restricted list, might throw a bullpen session on Wednesday. In the coming weeks, a decision will be made whether to activate him or not.
  • Friedman admitted the Dodgers had no realistic plan to go beneath the CBT threshold with the additions of Mookie Betts and David Price.
  • Friedman suggests that if Jimmy Nelson doesn’t make the rotation, he can take on the 2017 Brandon Morrow role as a reliever.
  • Doc led the first team meeting of 2020 with the inspirational quote “the dream is the journey” by the late great NBA icon, Kobe Bryant.
