Post-Game Briefing

Following back-to-back wins against the Giants, the Dodgers gave the ball to Alex Wood to take the mound in game three of this four-game set. Despite recording no errors, the Dodgers continually made mistakes on the basepaths. On three occasions, a Dodgers baserunner was doubled-off after being caught retreating too late. These mental errors made it nearly impossible for the Dodgers to get any sort of a rally going, ultimately preventing the team from scoring runs at the clip the team had on the two previous evenings.

The Giants came out of the gate with Alex Wood figured out, scoring in all three innings Wood pitched in. Wood worked through the first three innings of the game, allowing three runs on both a trio of hits and walks, respectively. Wood seemed to be regularly missing his spots, which the Giants capitalized upon. However, on a lighter note, Wood led both team’s pitchers in strikeouts, racking up four punchouts before his exit in the third inning.

Scoring Plays

  • TOP 1ST: Ruf RBI single (1-0 SF)
  • BOT 1ST: Turner RBI double (1-1)
  • TOP 2ND: Yastrzemski scores on wild pitch (2-1 SF)
  • TOP 3RD: Flores solo home run (3-1 SF)
  • TOP 4TH: Solano RBI double (5-1 SF)
  • BOT 8TH: Seager RBI single (5-3 SF)
  • BOT 9TH: Smith solo home run (5-4 SF)

DLD Play of the Game

Entering the bottom of the ninth inning, down two runs, Will Smith led-off the inning with a solo home run, bring the Dodgers within one run of tying the game and eliminating what was once a four-run lead. Smith entered the game as a defensive substitution for Austin Barnes in the eighth inning.

DLD Player of the Game

In the eighth inning, Corey Seager stepped up and delivered the Dodgers’ only base hit with runners in scoring position on Saturday, driving in Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner. Although only his knock in the eighth ended up a hit, Seager slashed a pair of flyballs to left field that became tough plays for the Giants left fielder, Austin Slater. For his clutch batting late in the game, Corey Seager is Saturday’s DLD Player of the Game.

Up Next

On Sunday, the Dodgers will wrap up their four-game set with the Giants with an ESPN Sunday Night Baseball special. As of now, Julio Urías is set to take the mound for the Dodgers in what L.A. hopes will be a 3-1 series victory for the Dodgers. First-pitch is scheduled for 7:08 PM PDT, with Gabe Kapler and the San Francisco Giants yet to announce their starting pitcher.
