Post-Game Briefing

The Dodgers traveled from Houston to Phoenix, following their two-game sweep of the reigning American League pennant-winning Houston Astros, and did not disappoint in their first match-up with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers’ offense came out looking to score early and ended up being successful in doing so, tallying four runs in the first two innings.

The team’s offensive outburst was just as much about their patience at the plate as it was their ability to barrel pitches out of the yard, which they did three times. In Robbie Ray’s 4.2 innings pitched for the Diamondbacks to begin the game, the Dodgers worked six walks, staying within themselves and creating scoring opportunities without swinging the bat.

Ross Stripling made his second start of the season for the Dodgers on Thursday, earning his second win of the season in the process of throwing 5.1 innings of three-run baseball.

DLD Play of the Game

In the second inning, Mookie Betts showed off his speed and great decision-making skills on the basepaths when he managed to turn a line drive into shallow right field into a double, juking second baseman Ketel Marte as Betts slid safely into second base.

DLD Player of the Game

In the first inning, A.J. Pollock drove a 92.7 MPH fastball into the seats in left field to extend the Dodgers’ early lead. Pollock would later rope a double into deep center field and score on a groundout by Corey Seager. Pollock’s hot streak to begin the 2020 season continued into Arizona, earning him Thursday’s DLD player of the game honors.
