Post-Game Briefing

On Wednesday, the Dodgers dropped game two of this three-game set versus the Athletics, just the team’s second loss in their last eight games, and entered Thursday searching for a series victory. The Dodgers’ offense posted five runs on eight hits and four walks against Mike Fiers and the Oakland bullpen, hitting .375 with runners in scoring position, and doing enough to claim their 40th win of the 2020 regular season.

Walker Buehler went into the game as the Dodgers’ starting pitcher, returning from a blister-related hand injury, and executing a very good start despite the length of his outing. Buehler allowed no runs over his four innings of one-hit baseball, striking out six in the process. Buehler’s early exit merited Dylan Floro the win in this game, his third of the year.

Scoring Plays

  • BOT 1ST: Smith RBI single (1-0 LAD)
  • BOT 3RD: Seager solo home run (2-0 LAD)
  • BOT 6TH: Hernandez RBI single (3-0 LAD)
  • BOT 6TH: Taylor RBI base on balls (4-0 LAD)
  • BOT 6TH: Seager sacrifice fly (5-0 LAD)
  • TOP 8TH: Murphy solo home run (5-1 LAD)

Play of the Game

In the bottom of the third inning, Corey Seager launched his 15th home run of the season into the seats in left-center field, putting the Dodgers ahead by two runs, a margin that would ultimately be enough to win on Thursday night. Seager’s difference-making home run earns tonight’s Dodgers-LowDown Play of the Game.

Player of the Game

A key part of the Dodgers’ success the past few seasons has been Walker Buehler, and Buehler did exactly what the Dodgers want from him on Thursday. Buehler’s shutout performance earns him tonight’s Dodgers-LowDown Player of the Game.

Up Next

The Dodgers will wrap up the 2020 regular season this weekend, hosting the Angels for three games. As for Friday’s series opener, Clayton Kershaw is set to take the mound for the Dodgers, facing off against Angels starting pitcher Andrew Heaney. First-pitch is scheduled for 6:40 PM PDT.
