POST Game Briefing
As Los Angeles endures another hot and humid day, the Dodgers came into the series finale looking to win their 4th straight game and sweep the struggling Colorado Rockies who have dropped their last 6 straight games. Prior to the game, the Dodgers honored the late Kobe Bryant with a pregame video in addition to putting the numbers “2” and “24” on the mound honoring both Kobe and Gianna Bryant. This emotional tribute was the lead in to another afternoon slugfest as the Dodgers offense never backed off hitting (7) home runs securing the win and the sweep by the score of 11-3. The Dodgers in 2020 have yet to lose a series.
The offense got off on the right foot with in the 1st when Corey Seager clubbed a solo home run giving the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 3rd with the score tied, Mookie Betts who continues to shine in his first season with the Dodgers clubbed his 10th home run giving the Dodgers the lead 2-1 lead. The Rockies tied the score in the top of the 4th 2-2, however this did not last long as a Joc Pederson and Max Muncy got back to back singles which brought up Kike Hernandez who slugged a 3 run home run giving the Dodgers a 5-2 lead. Cody Bellinger contributed to the onslaught in the 6th with his 8th home run increasing the lead to 6-2. In the 7th, Will Smith in his first game from the injured listed clubbed his 3rd home run and AJ Pollack pinch hitting for Joc Pederson hit a sacrifice fly RBI with the based loaded increasing the score to 8-2. The Dodgers scored 3 more runs in the 8th on Max Muncy’s 7th home run of the season. Mookie Betts finished the scoring with his second home run of the game driving in Will Smith who had walked increasing the Dodgers lead to 11-2. In total, the Dodgers hit 7 home runs which drove in all but 1 of their runs securing their 11-3 win and thoroughly demoralized the Rockies.
Ross Stripling (3-1) came into today looking to win his 4th game of the year while working on lowering his ERA which entered the day at 5.46. It was not to be as he would only go 4 innings while giving up 6 hits, 2 runs walking 2 while striking out 2. With the game tied, Roberts went to the pen which showed they are the best in baseball. Despite a late inning solo home run by the Rockies, the pen went 5 innings giving up 1 runs on 3 hits with 4 strike outs and no walks.
