DLD Rewind: Dodgers Sweep Braves, Extend Home Win Streak to Ten Games

On Monday, the Dodgers travelled back home to Chavez Ravine after a six-game road trip in which the team cut even. The team’s return home also welcomed in the Atlanta Braves for both organization’s first match-up with one another in 2019. The Dodgers further continued their winning ways at home against the Braves, taking their fifth series win at Dodger Stadium.

Game One

The Dodgers bounced back from Sunday’s loss in San Diego with a great game against the reigning National League East Division champions, getting out to a strong lead early and never giving it up.

The Dodgers (23-14) defeated the Braves (18-17), 5-3.

  • WP: Walker Buehler (4-0, 4.95 ERA)
  • LP: Kevin Gausman (1-3, 5.00 ERA)
  • SV: Julio Urias (1)

DLD Impact Player(s) of the Game

Walker Buehler

It was clear to anyone who watched Walker Buehler’s outing that the second-year pitching phenom had his very best stuff on the mound in this one. Buehler rung up eight batters in his seven innings of work, mixing his pitches in a way that left hitters clueless.

Game Two

The Dodgers’ offense came to life against the Braves on Tuesday, backed up by an outstanding game by LA’s starting pitcher, Hyun-Jin Ryu. The victory was a blow-out, and one that the Dodgers would be more than happy to recapture a few more times this season.

The Dodgers (24-14) defeated the Braves (18-18), 9-0.

  • WP: Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-1, 2.03 ERA)
  • LP: Max Fried (4-2, 2.97 ERA)

DLD Impact Player(s) of the Game

Hyun-Jin Ryu

In what was potentially the best start of Hyun-Jin Ryu’s career, the thirty-two year old took the game into his hands, pitching all nine innings in this shutout performance. This start was another outstanding one to back up, and maybe out-do, Buehler’s from the night before.

Justin Turner

As the calendar flipped to May, so did Justin Turner’s fortunes at the plate. Turner had quite the night, leading the offense with the first three home run game of his career. His final line would show up barring four hits, three home runs, and six runs batted in.

Game Three

The Dodgers again overpowered the Braves’ pitching staff, posting another nine runs on the way to steamrolling over Atlanta. The win caps off a series sweep for LA and gives them their tenth consecutive win at Dodger Stadium. Backed by another quality start from Clayton Kershaw, the Dodgers showed just how hard it is to beat them in their house.

The Dodgers (25-14) defeated the Braves (18-19), 9-4.

  • WP: Clayton Kershaw (2-0, 3.31 ERA)
  • LP: Mike Foltynewicz (0-2, 5.94 ERA)

DLD Impact Player(s) of the Game

Max Muncy

Launching his eighth home run of 2019 into the bleachers in right field against Braves starting pitcher, Mike Foltynewicz, Max Muncy had a big game on offense. Muncy collected three hits on the night with a pair of RBIs. Without Muncy’s boost of offense and adrenaline for the rest of the team, the Dodgers very well could have found themselves losing this one.

Series Forecast

Up next, Anthony Rendon and the Washington Nationals will come into town to face the Dodgers in a four-game set. The Nationals are 4-11 in their last fifteen games coming into Thursday, and are currently on a four-game losing streak.
