Today the Dodgers announced that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Adam McCreery from the Braves in exchange for cash considerations. McCreery was designated for assignment by the Braves two days ago.
McCreery, 25, is a big left-hander (he’s listed as 6-foot-9, 250 pounds) and Southern California native (born in La Verne, California) who was drafted by the Angels in 2014 out of Azusa Pacific University and spent his first two years in their organization before getting traded to the Braves in exchange for Jhoulys Chacin. Since being acquired by the Braves, McCreery has moved through their farm system and in 2018 he went 2-5 with a 3.62 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, and a 71/37 KK/BB ratio in 54.2 innings between Triple-A Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi. He also made his major league debut in 2018 throwing 1 inning against the Nationals. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits but struck out 2 and walked 0.
In order to create room on the 40-man roster for McCreery, the Dodgers announced that they have designated switch-pitcher Pat Venditte for assignment. Venditte, 34, appeared in 15 games and posted a 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and a 9/3 K/BB ratio in 14.0 innings. It’s possible that Venditte will remain in the organization if he does not get claimed off of waivers and chooses to elect an assignment to the minor leagues.
