Earlier this week the Dodgers chose to DFA OF Kyle Garlick in order to make the necessary room for their most recent trade acquisitions of Betts and Price. The Dodgers were able to find Garlick a new home in Philadelphia by trading him to the Phillies in exchange for LHP Tyler Gilbert. Born in Santa Cruz, CA, Gilbert would find himself playing college ball at USC many years later. Gilbert was drafted in the 6th round by the Phillies back in 2015. He made 23 starts back in 2016, but appears to have been converted into a reliever. Last season in AAA, Gilbert appeared in 36 games and had a 2.83 ERA over 47 2/3 innings, while having 46 K’s to go along with that. At age 26, Gilbert is expected to start the season in AAA and has the potential to join the Dodgers at some point as a LH reliever that they might need.
