On Tuesday evening, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reported the Chicago White Sox as a notable buyer in the MLB offseason market this winter. One of the moves Chicago is reportedly pursuing is a trade for Dodgers outfielder Joc Pederson. Trade talks between the two teams are in the “preliminary” stage, according to the pair of sources with direct knowledge of the negotiation that Nightengale cites.
This is not the first time the Dodgers and the White Sox have negotiated terms to send Pederson to Chicago. The two teams were in talks during the 2018 offseason, although a deal was never completed. During that winter, the Dodgers were reportedly interested in White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu. However, with Abreu inking a three year deal worth $50 million with Chicago just over a week ago, it seems unlikely he will be included in any trade package for Pederson.
The #Dodgers quietly are being aggressive this winter. They're in talks with free-agent third baseman Anthony Rendon, and starting pitchers Stephen Strasburg and Kevin Gausman. Several rivals say LA also is willing to listen to trade offers on several of their high-priced players

The White Sox’ roster is full of young, talented baseball players. For the Dodgers, one player the team may seriously consider slating into their return for Pederson is twenty-six year old White Sox relief pitcher Aaron Bummer. In 2019, Bummer threw a career-high 67.2 innings in his 58 appearances out of the ‘pen for Chicago. Over that span of play, Bummer recorded a 2.13 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP, both of which ranked in the top ten among AL relievers a year ago.
