Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!The pressure is on the Dodgers to repeat as World Champions. To do that, the team has hit the ground running to ensure the team is ready for all challenges, even if it means trading away some pieces that contributed to the championship a year ago.
While it was known that the Dodgers had interest in former Brewers, now Yankees reliever Devin Williams, a source told DodgerBlue.com that talks between the Brewers and Dodgers centered around a package for Gavin Lux and Hunter Feduccia.
Ultimately the Brewers ended up accepting a package from the Yankees that included starting pitcher Nestor Cortes and utilityman Caleb Durbin, said to be the key to getting the deal done.
The Brewers lost shortstop Willy Adames to the Giants in free agency when he signed a seven-year, $182 million deal. Acquiring Durbin is expected to allow the Brewers to shift Brice Turang from second base to shortstop, and Durbin to become the team’s new second baseman.
Lux, 27, comes off a second half of the 2024 season that saw him live up to the potential he was billed with since the Dodgers selected him with their 1st round, 20th overall pick in the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Indian Trail High School in Kenosha, Wis.
After starting the first half of the season hitting .213/.267/.295 with three HRs and 24 RBIs in 78 games, Lux stepped it up, hitting .304/.391/.508 with seven HRs and 26 RBIs in 61 games. He became a staple in the Dodgers’ lineup and came through on some big plays along the team’s journey to winning the World Series.
Feduccia, 27, spent most of his season at Triple-A Oklahoma City, hitting .284/.409/.428 with six HRs, 50 RBIs in 82 games. He saw 12 at-bats in five games for the Dodgers, collecting four hits, driving in one run, striking out twice and walking twice in the small sample size.
Could the Dodgers feel as if Lux has maximized his trade value?
Feduccia is likely expendable since the Dodgers’ catching situation in the big leagues pushes him to Triple A at the best case scenario.
