The first weekend of Summer Training Camp is in the books. And like previous days, COVID-19 shadowed most of the news. Here are some quick hits from Sunday.
- Right handed pitcher Clayton Beeter announced that he signed with the Dodgers on his social media accounts. Beeter was a Compensation Round B selection, 66th pick overall in the 2020 MLB Draft. With his signing, the Dodgers have now inked all six of their picks. The exact amount Beeter signed for is unknown at the moment, but according to Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline, it’ll likely be just under $1.2 million.
- Dave Roberts revealed Kenley Jansen and AJ Pollock have not been in camp since Wednesday, the first day to report. He didn’t disclose the reasons for their absence but says he expects Pollock soon, whereas Doc expressed hope Jansen will show up to camp shortly. This brings up speculation whether the coronavirus has anything to do with both no shows. Doc says he has kept in touch with the two.
- Doc believes the team has more than capable replacements for David Price. He named Ross Stripling, Tony Gonsolin, and Dustin May as possible candidates. Among the three, Stripling has the most experience in general but, most importantly, more outings against the NL West, whom the Dodgers will be facing 40 of the 60 games this season.
- Ross Stripling says he’s building himself up to throw at least six innings an outing by the beginning of the season. Stripling admitted to feeling his chances of making the rotation in March were inadequate. Against the NL West, Stripling has a career 3.45 ERA in 65 total appearances where opponents have slashed .266/.305/.399 against him.
- Dave Roberts said the regular season schedule will be announced Monday. This confirms recent reports by national beat writers.
Not much news for Sunday, so as a consolation, here’s some content we hope to see and enjoy plenty of during the season:
