According to reports, the Dodgers are looking at potential scenarios to acquire 3B Nolan Arenado in a trade from the Colorado Rockies. Arenado is a five-time All-Star & has won eight consecutive Gold Gloves defensively at third. The Dodgers have been interested in Arenado in the past, but they weren’t able to get their guy after he signed an 8 year/ $260 million contract extension to remain with the Rockies. With six years remaining on that deal, Arenado finds himself disgruntled because he wants to play for a contender. The Rockies are not in that position, and even though Arenado has a full no-trade clause, there is strong optimism that Arenado would waive it because he grew up in Southern California rooting for the Dodgers. Arenado is only 29, but his player opt out option after this upcoming season makes this trade super tricky. The Dodgers would likely have to surrender a couple good pitching arms such as Tony Gonsolin, Josiah Gray, or Mitchell White.
Arenado is coming off a .253/.303./.434 slash line with 8 HRs and 26 RBIs.
However over the course of Arenado’s 8-year career, he has hit 235 HRs & drove in 760 runs, while slashing .293/.349/.541
Arenado has the potential to provide a long-term solution at third base both offensively and defensively.
