TL;DR - Scouting Report
Dodgers Ranked #2, earning 19 first-place votes in The Athletic's 2024 poll of top sports front offices, thanks to excellence in elite decision-making and strategy.
Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!The Dodgers are really good at piecing together a franchise that wins in more ways than one, as evidenced by their World Championship victory in 2024.
A collective of 40 executives were polled by The Athletic prior to the start of the MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL seasons, where the executives were asked to rank the top five front offices of their respective sport.
The scoring system used by The Athletic rewarded 10 points for a first-place vote, seven for second, five for third, three for fourth, and one for fifth.
Coming out up top was the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder with 354 points and 29 first-place votes. Following them were the Dodgers with 284 points and 19 first-place votes.
In third place was the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens with 259 points and 15 first-place votes.
Perhaps tinkering with the Dodgers’ bid for first place was the team in fourth place, the Rays, who secured 258 points and 12 first-place votes.
Wrapping up the top five was the NHL’s Dallas Stars with 251 votes and 17 first-place votes.
Other MLB teams in the top 20 were the Braves at 12th with 130 points, Guardians at 15th with 101 points and Orioles at 16th with 91 points.
The Diamondbacks were the only other NL West team on the list, checking in at 26th with 43 points.
Other LA teams on the list were the Rams at 25th with 48.5 points and the Clippers at 70th with one point.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to see the Dodgers and Rays atop the MLB representatives given that Andrew Friedman, the Dodgers’ president of baseball operations, came from Tampa Bay to help build what is the current version of the team today.
One executive told The Athletic that a first-place vote for the Dodgers is “self-explanatory. They are elite at everything.”
Another compliment given to Friedman and the front office is its “insane discipline” in not “wasting” resources on mid-tier players, allowing the team to pursue an available star player.
