In a flurry of moves the Dodgers made on Tuesday afternoon, including the signing of LHP Jake McGee and a 45-day IL placement for Jimmy Nelson, the Dodgers optioned Gavin Lux, the team’s top prospect and MLB Pipeline’s second-highest ranked prospect.

During the 2019 season, Lux made his way from AA Tulsa all the way to the Major League club, batting .392 in 49 games at AAA Oklahoma City. Lux’s time in the Major Leagues in 2019 equated to 23 games. Over that span, Lux recorded 0.2 points of fWAR with an OPS of .705.

Lux, 22, was thought to be the leading candidate for the Opening Day start at second base for the Dodgers. However, with Tuesday’s option, Lux will not be on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster in 2020. The move comes after a late arrival to Summer Camp that Lux reportedly declined to answer on, specifically.

According to ZiPS, Lux was projected to play in 50 games with the big league club this season, making himself a mainstay and a favorite for National League Rookie of the Year.
