The Dodgers signed outfielders Paulo Orlando and Cameron Perkins to minor league contracts with invitations to spring training.
Orlando, 33, has played in 278 games in the majors over the past 4 seasons and has hit .263/.289/.384 with 44 doubles, 10 triples, 14 home runs, 81 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, 98 runs scored, and a 203/22 K/BB ratio in 918 plate appearances. This past season Orlando spent the majority of it at Triple-A Omaha where he hit .270/.319/.467 with 17 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs, 41 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, 46 runs scored, and a 58/17 K/BB ratio in 311 plate appearances. Orlando is capable of playing all three outfield positions but has played mostly in right field.
Perkins, 28, played in 42 games in the majors in 2017 with the Phillies and hit .182/.237/.273 with 5 doubles, 1 home run, 8 RBIs, 9 runs scored, and a 23/5 K/BB ratio in 97 plate appearances. This past season Perkins spent the entire season with the Mariners organization and hit .257/.313/.423 with 26 doubles, 2 triples, 11 home runs, 51 RBIs, 9 stolen bases, 54 runs scored, and a 72/26 K/BB ratio in 415 plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma. Perkins is capable of playing all three outfield positions as well as first base.
Both Orlando and Perkins are right-handed hitters and given the fact that the Dodgers’ outfield is heavily left-handed (Pederson, Bellinger, Verdugo, Toles) oriented at the moment there could be a chance should they fail to add a right-handed bat or two this offseason that they could be competing for a chance to win a reserve role on the Opening Day roster.
