Move over Jackie. Make room for Sandy.
Shortly after the press release of the artist renderings for the renovations currently underway at Dodger Stadium in preparation for next season came the announcement of a second statue. That second statue will be of Hall of Fame left-hander Sandy Koufax.
Koufax, once known as “The Left Arm of God” will be the first pitcher immortalized in a Dodger Stadium statue and the second player joining fellow Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson.
The statue is expected to be unveiled next year, in what the team is calling a new entertainment plaza beyond center field. The Dodgers also announced that they plan to move the statue of Jackie Robinson, installed two years ago on the reserve level, to the entertainment plaza. Robinson’s statue will be flanked by Koufax’s statue.
