Dodgers pitchers were heavily targeted by the injury bug in 2024, and when it seemed like the pitcher with the biggest reputation for getting injured might avoid it, Tyler Glasnow couldn’t going down in August.

On Aug. 11, the Glasnow was placed on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow tendonitis, which at the time was said to be precautionary by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

However, Glasnow would not return, and inaugural season of a five-year, $136.5 million contract came to a close.

Glasnow was a guest on the Chris Rose Rotation last week and shared his thoughts on the Dodgers winning the World Series and his road to returning to the mound for the Dodgers in 2025.

Glasnow on watching and not participating in the World Series:

“I didn’t participate, but it was still fun to hang out and watch. It really was an awesome time – that whole experience would have been better to play, obviously, but the team getting together and winning, makes it a lot less stressful. Being injured sucks, not being able to participate and losing would hurt so much. But the fact that we won, it’s like a great experience.”

Glasnow on how important he felt the 2024 World Championship was to the fans:

“Growing up here, knowing how diehard and how involved everybody is here with baseball, fully seeing the fans during the games at the stadium, and at the parade, really let it set in for a lot of people. Like wow, this is very important to so many people, and you look at, however long the parade was, you look at the people in the front, thinking like, ‘what time did you get here?’ Then behind them was like thousands and thousands and thousands of people. Everyone was having such a good time. It was just sheer happiness and it was this big sense of relief for the entire city. It was cool to experience it and win and have the team we’re going to have for a while to go in the first year and with Sho and everyone, and then sign some more guys. It’s an exciting time, and it’s only up from here.”

Glasnow on how intoxicated he was during the parade:

“I wasn’t super drunk. I paced myself. I knew I had a long day ahead of me. So we had that and then we had Mookie’s house, and then we went out after. So I was like, ‘I’m not going to go crazy here,’ but I was feeling pretty good. We were hanging out and everybody was drinking on the bus. It was very social. A good time, and just like that relief kind of deal, you know. Everyone’s kind of decompressed. Not fully decompressed because there’s all that stuff going on, but like you don’t have to be in the routine of waking up and playing every day and having that in the back of your mind. I think it was a fun experience for everybody.”

Glasnow on why he thinks Clayton Kershaw is coming back to the Dodgers:

“He’s so much more than just a starting pitcher on the team. He’s been there for so long. He’s almost ingrained with the fabric of the Dodgers. He’s such a huge clubhouse presence, and his reach goes beyond baseball, not only within the city, but the organization itself. It’s almost like he’s as much of a coach as a player kind of thing, too. It’s kind of a familiar vibe, and I think it’s hard for him to hang it up. That dude is such a competitor and such a routine-oriented person, like every single day he was always, you could tell everything was on a clock. He would do everything very specifically to his routine, and I think he’s just so used to it and loves it so much. He’s a very social, big presence in the clubhouse. It’s probably a very hard thing to do for years, and then just not do it anymore. I think he wants to end on his own terms and have a chance to participate. I think it was hard for him to not be able to play and to be injured this last year. I don’t think he’s trying to end it on that.”

Glasnow on seeing Kershaw and Teoscar tear up and show emotion during the World Series celebration:

“I’ve never seen that guy tear up before, and for him to go up there and get choked up. I think the city and all that stuff means so much to him that it was a really cool moment to watch. I remember being there and watching and thinking ‘oh my God, what’s going on?’ He (Teoscar Hernandez) helped us so much this year, and he was so happy the second he got to the Dodgers. He fit in like a glove. I think it really resonated with him how much the fans loved him and how important the World Series was to the city in that moment. It was kind of like a whirlwind for him. He participated and helped so much during it and then just to get the fans to reciprocate the love. It’s crazy when you see dudes cry. It’s just nuts. Like guys who are not emotional crying, especially over baseball, it transcends. It’s not just a game, it’s very much like, it’s the whole city, it’s one big old heartbeat, it’s really cool.”

Glasnow on his most recent excursion in Africa:

“We did a two-week thing. The first week was safaris in Zimbabwe, and then we did the Kruger National Park. Then the second half was Cape Town. We did Victoria Falls. (I was) something like 30, 50 feet (from an elephant). The place where we were staying had a little water hole and they would just come up, so it was kind of cool if you were hanging out there. You would see a bunch of random animals. It was an awesome experience.”

Glasnow on the possibility of wild animals charging at him:

“The guy was telling us that if we stay in those cars, they kind of assume that since all the animals have seen those cars since they were kids, so when they see it, they assume that it’s one big animal, and as long as you’re not standing up and doing stuff, they’ve never had an incident. The other place I was at too had never had an incident either. We just followed the rules and sat in the car, and saw the animals. It was fun.”

Glasnow on the possibility of wild animals charging at him:

“I think the lions eating the kill the first day we got there was crazy. It was a rhino. Yeah, that was pretty nuts, and then we looked for a leopard the entire time, and couldn’t find it until like our second-to-last day. So when we found that, we had seen all the big five, and the only one we had left was a leopard because it was a bunch of lions, so none of them were around. So when we saw that, it was pretty cool too after searching for five days and finally seeing it, it was a good time.”

Glasnow on what a typical day was like on the African Safari trip:

“It’s pretty sporadic if you wake up at 5 a.m. and then go out for like four hours, and the mornings can be slow sometimes. Then you go back and just chill forever and then you back out at like 4:35 p.m. for like five or six hours, depending on the day, so there was a lot of downtime. I think when we were actually out there seeing animals, it was insane. It was really cool and then we’d go and kind of have nothing to do all day. Like the first one we went to, there was no Wi-Fi, so we were just like go work out and then just kind of chill and hang. It was kind of nice just being away from it all. Like, ‘what do we do? We can’t really have our phones.’ We don’t really know what’s going on, but it made it even more special to go out and see the animals because everything was mellow. You’d go out and all the entertainment you had was seeing these crazy animals. So it was very naturey and a really cool experience. I’m glad I did it.”
