TL;DR - Scouting Report
Max Muncy reacts to Nolan Arenado’s Instagram post featuring “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar, praises Arenado’s defense, and says he’s ready to adapt roles to help the Dodgers win in 2025. Could Arenado join Los Angeles?
Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!Max Muncy is expected to enter his eighth season in the Dodgers organization in 2025 – and is willing to do what it takes to help the World Series champions to repeat as baseball’s best at any cost, even if it means he hands the third base job to Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado.
On Tuesday, Muncy was a guest on Foul Territory, and a tough question was thrown Muncy’s way: how did he (Muncy) feel about a particular person’s post he made on his Instagram page.
This particular person is Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, a native of Newport Beach and alumnus of El Toro High School in Lake Forest. He posted a carousel on Instagram, selecting “dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar as the song for the post.
Arenado’s post on Instagram:
Muncy is willing to do what it takes to add value to the Dodgers in 2025:
“As long as I get to stay around, I don’t care who they bring in. I’ve never been one that said, ‘no, I’m not going to play this position, I’m not going to play that position, I’m not going to bat in this spot in the order.’ I don’t care. As long as you put me out there, I’ll play left field, I’ll play right field, I’ll play third, I’ll play first. I’ll play wherever they want to put me, as long as it means I’m out there on that field wearing Dodger Blue, playing in that stadium, it doesn’t matter to me.”
While showing high praise for Arenado as an all-time great, Muncy reiterates his determination to help the Dodgers in every way he can in 2025:
“When you’re talking about the guy you’re talking about, you talk about arguably the best defensive third baseman of all time. At this point, if you look at his numbers, I can see why it would be appealing. … As long as I get to stay around and be on that team, and I get to help out in some way, shape or form, I don’t care where it’s at, what spot in the order, it doesn’t matter. Even if it’s becoming more of a role player, I don’t really care. I just want to be there and help the team win.”

Muncy turns 35 in August, and is coming off a season where his batting average rose for the third straight year – finishing with a batting line of .232/.358/.494 with 15 HRs and 48 RBIs.
An oblique injury caused Muncy to miss just over three months. He was on pace to hit 33 HRs and 106 RBIs, both in line with the 36 HRs and 105 RBIs he turned in during the 2023 season.
In the playoffs, Muncy would go on to hit .163/.388/.367 with three HRs and five RBIs in 16 games.
Throughout his big-league career, Muncy has played first base, second base, third base, left field and right field.
Fun fact: Max Muncy pitched in three minor-league games in 2017 for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He threw 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no runs on two hits, walking one with no strikeouts, facing eight batters. Muncy carries a 0.00 career ERA and 1.286 WHIP. Who knew?
Arenado, on the other hand, turns 34 on April 16, and comes off a season where he hit .272/.325/.394 with 16 HRs, 71 RBIs and a 2.5 WAR in 152 games. He is a former eight-time All Star, who is expected to enter his fifth season with the Cardinals after spending eight seasons with the Rockies – the team who drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft.
The earliest Arenado is expected to become a free agent is 2028. He is owed $32 million ($27 million by the Cardinals, $5 million by the Rockies) in 2025, $27 million in 2026 ($22 million by the Cardinals, $5 million by the Rockies) and $15 million (all by the Cardinals) for a total of $74 million dollars owed over the next three seasons.
