Jimmy Nelson Talks 2021 Spring Training

Right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson recently joined The Incline: Dodgers podcast to provide some insight on how Spring Training is going & his progress for the upcoming 2021 season. The Dodgers signed him this offseason to a Minor-League deal after declining the second year of his option earlier in the offseason.

“I was more than happy to come back. This is where I wanted to be and needed to be. The best I’ve felt in years.”

Roberts mentioned to the media that they could possibly see him in the rotation mix at some point this season. Nelson acknowledged they are still trying to find the right role, but is just thankful to be signed by the team. Jimmy Nelson has been impressed by the Dodgers organization from the moment he signed with the team and recognizes the strength of the training staff. They’ve been working with him to get to where he needs health wise and get his mechanics in sync.

Nelson believes recently acquired RHP Corey Knebel will be a great fit for the Dodgers. The two go back as teammates on the Brewers. He’s seen Knebel buy into the system immediately and predicts, “he will have a big year.”

“It’s cool company to be around.” Nelson admires the knowledge David Price & Clayton Kershaw have to offer and by just being around them it’s helped him learn. The support of his teammates have helped him become a better pitcher and mentally relax. The amount of the talent the Dodgers possess has certainly impressed him. Nelson said a lot of the pitchers look great and highlighted Dustin May for recently throwing 101 MPH.

When asked about his June 2, 2017 start where he pitched against the Dodgers, he recalled just how great he felt that day & looking to return to that form that he had gained in 2017 when he finished with a 3.49 ERA over 29 starts.
