Clayton Kershaw will pitch his first game of the shortened 2020 season Sunday in Arizona, Dave Roberts announced today. Walker Buehler, initially set to make that start, will instead pitch on Monday.
Kershaw was placed on the IL with back stiffness on July 23, just hours before he was set to pitch the Dodgers’ opener. Dustin May replaced him in the rotation, becoming the youngest pitcher to make an Opening Day start since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.
In 2019, Kershaw went 16-5 with a 3.03 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 189 K. In his last start versus the DBacks, he went five innings, giving up five earned runs on five hits while striking out six and walking two.
