There wasn’t much to report out of Summer Camp from Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, but the news was still compelling.
- Dave Roberts confirmed what most knew when it was announced earlier this year during Spring Training in March. Clayton Kershaw will start opening night against the Giants on July 23rd. It’ll be his ninth opening game start, the most by any Dodger in franchise history. The next closest is Don Sutton and Don Drysdale with seven. Kershaw will join a group of twenty-eight other pitchers with nine or more opening game starts which only one other that’s still active, Justin Verlander. In the eight opening day starts of his career, Kershaw has allowed 7 runs (6 earned), 2 homeruns, 8 walks while striking out 59 in 51.2 innings pitched.
- Max Muncy took a ball off his left ring finger on Sunday. He’s listed as day-to-day and is expected back soon.
- It was revealed that Tony Gonsolin, Scott Alexander, and Keibert Ruiz have not shown up to camp for reasons undisclosed by Dave Roberts. The three join Kenley Jansen, Pedro Baez, AJ Pollock, and Gavin Lux as no shows for reasons unknown. The common assumption is all these players aren’t in camp due to some explanation revolving around COVID-19. David Price initially showed up to camp but ultimately decided to opt-out of the season due to the health risks that could affect his family and him while playing during a pandemic. Kenley Jansen and Scott Alexander have pre-existing conditions that pose as vulnerabilities to the disease. AJ Pollock has been rumored to be contemplating opting out as well for the safety of his family.
