This Week in Dodger Baseball

Around the Bases

Matt Beaty Has Been a Catalyst For the Dodgers Offense

Matt Beaty is off to a fantastic start for the Dodgers during this young 2021 season. After initially being sent down to the alternate site for a few days, Beaty has been on a tear ever since the Dodgers recalled him back on April 24.

Since April 27, no one has driven in more runs that Beaty. His 18 RBIs are the most in baseball during that span. Over Beaty’s last 15 games, the lefty has a slash line of .394/.512/.545.

Dodgers have been able to capitalize on Beaty’s versatility by starting him in the outfield as well as first base. He’s seizing the opportunity with injuries to both Zach McKinstry and Edwin Ríos. Beaty’s best game of the year came on May 2 when he drove 7 runs and had 4 hits. The following game Beaty had two opportunities to start in a game against the Cubs, but Roberts failed to find Beaty a single at bat. The media and fans hounded Roberts that day, and since then the Dodgers manager has made sure to get one of the Dodgers’ hottest hitters consistent at bats.

During a time when the Dodgers offense was struggling in failing to drive in runs, it’s starting to look like that issue has been solved, due in large part to Matt Beaty.
