This Week in Dodger Baseball

Around the Bases

Mookie Betts welcomes all 52,078 Dodgers fans with a Moonshot

At 9:31 p.m. last night, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reported some news that seemed inevitable a year ago:

Five minutes later, after everyone got their jokes out about how awful the traffic must be, Mookie Betts delivered the moment that returned to fans a sense of joy, but more important normalcy.

What a moment!

With the game knotted up at three in the bottom of the 7th inning, down in the count 0-2 and Mookie gives all 52,078 people a reminder that nature has finally healed.

The full house finally got to give the much deserved adulation for the man that helped ring in the 2020 World Series ring.

The best part of this has to be the fan who caught Mookie’s moonshot in left field. She reaches over a couple rows to snatch the ball and then raises it towards the heavens like Kareem doing his vintage sky hook. When the camera panned back to her it’s a complete M. Night Shyamalan twists when she reveals the big 50 on her back. What else could you ask for in the span of a 33-second highlight.

These dudes who just ripped their shirts off to celebrate the home run are coming in at a close second.

No matter the score or one’s BMI there is never a bad time to take your shirt off at sporting events. If your face isn’t looking like you stuck a wet fork in a power outlet then you’re just not doing it right.

To make the glorious night even better, Mookie singled in a run the next inning off of well-known arch-nemesis, Archie Bradley. Even though Betts might not be aware of the drama of the past, and Bradley no longer pitches for the Diamondbacks, it’s all jubilation when he’s getting rocked.

All in all, the Dodgers pulled out a 5-3 victory, and have now won seven of their last eight and are only one game out of first place.

When Matt isn’t blogging about the Dodgers, he’s probably yelling at his TV because of them.
