News: Dodgers Protect 4 Players From Rule-5 Draft

Earlier today the Dodgers announced that they added four players from their farm system to the 40-man roster in order to protect them from next month’s Rule-5 Draft.

The four players that the Dodgers added to the 40-man roster are right-handed pitchers Gerardo Carrillo, Andre Jackson and Edwin Uceta, and outfielder Zach Reks.

Carrillo, 22, is currently ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 16 prospect by MLB Pipeline.  In 2019, he was 5-9 with a 5.44 ERA at High-A Rancho Cucamonga. He spent the entire 2020 season at the team’s alternate training site.

Jackson, 24, is currently ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 28 prospect by MLB Pipeline. In 2019, he was 7-2 with a 3.06 ERA while splitting time between High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Low-A Great Lakes. He too spent the entire 2020 season at the team’s alternate training site.

Uceta, 22, is currently ranked as the Dodgers’ No. 22 prospect by MLB Pipeline. In 2019, he was a combined 11-2 with a 2.77 ERA between High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Tulsa. He was a non-roster invite to spring training and originally assigned to the alternate training site this year, but he returned home midway through the season.

Reks, 27, is not currently ranked by MLB Pipeline on the Dodgers’ Top 30 prospects list. In 2019, he hit 28 home runs while splitting time between Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa. He was a non-roster invite to spring training this year and spent the entire 2020 season at the team’s alternate training site.

With Carrillo, Jackson, Uceta, and Reks protected that leaves the following unprotected for next month’s Rule-5 Draft:

Position Players

The Dodgers’ 40-man roster now currently sits at 36.
