The Dodgers recalled right-handed pitcher Phil Bickford from Triple-A Oklahoma City Sunday, and placed right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 21, with right forearm inflammation, the team announced.
Bickford, 25, was claimed by the Dodgers on May 3 from the Brewers, where he pitched in two Major League games over the last two seasons, allowing six runs and six hits in 2.0 innings pitched, striking out two and walking one and allowing a home run.
He has appeared in five games for Oklahoma City and has a record of 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA, allowing three runs and five hits in 5.0 innings pitched, striking out 12 and not walking any batters.
Originally, Bickford was drafted by the Giants in the first round (18th pick) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the College of Southern Nevada. Prior to that, he pitched at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village.
In six minor league seasons, he is 12-8 with a 3.03 ERA.
Nelson last pitched two shutout innings in Thursday’s victory over the Diamondbacks, striking out five of six batters he faced. He has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances, with the last run scored against him coming in the 11-inning loss to the Padres on April 25.
