Pre-Game News And Notes: March 1, 2020

Here’s a quick look at everything Dodgers before today’s game.

  • As noted yesterday, Yadier Alvarez was designated for assignment by the Dodgers. We know now that he felt discomfort in his shoulder/lat while warming up for his Friday 2020 debut. He will undergo further testing to find the severity of the issue. Here’s the report by Bill Plunkett:

  • Former Dodgers pitcher Kenta Maeda, who was traded this past off-season to the Twins, revealed in his YouTube channel that he asked the Dodgers to move him. Stating he set a goal of reaching 200 career wins. The belief is the Dodgers would have hindered and jeopardized achieving his personal milestone.
  • Friday it was reported that David Price will exclusively pitch out of the stretch. Today, he went into detail as to why. Here’s what David Vassegh reported:

Price also pointed out that he made his windup look as if he’s pitching out of the stretch and that the most crucial moments come when pitching out of the stretch as well. This will not be the first time in his career he’s made this adjustment.

  • It was confirmed today that Julio Urias and David Price will make their 2020 debuts tomorrow against the Reds. This will also be David Price’s Dodgers debut on the mound in a game.
  • Kiké Hernandez made an adjustment to his swing at the end of the regular season in 2019. He noticed better timing and contact as a result. He went on to refine the swing during the off-season as reported by Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA.
  • Dave Roberts isn’t sure if Brusdar Graterol will be in the opening day roster but after his debut against the Rockies where he retired Trevor Story, Charlie Blackmon, and Nolan Arenado on 11 pitches, he’s definitely in the conversation.
  • Justin Turner was scratched from today’s game against the Rangers not because of any injury but due to miscommunication with Roberts. Doc claimed it was his fault.
  • It was reported on the 27th of February that Joe Kelly attended Driveline in Seattle for an evaluation. That makes four Dodger pitchers that visited the complex this past off-season with the other three being Kenley Jansen, Alex Wood, and Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers this past off-season hired Rob Hill, a Driveline employee, to be the teams pitching coordinator.
  • In an article by Bob Nightengale, David Price revealed that he’s very happy and comfortable in his present situation with the Dodgers, saying “I’ve only been here a couple of weeks but I really couldn’t be happier”…”It’s such a big difference from Boston to here, really, it’s night and day.”
