Here’s a brief recap of Dodger news prior to tonight’s game.
- Max Muncy isn’t in the lineup today because a minor quadriceps injury he’s dealing with that was sustained in last nights win against the Rockies. He’s available off the bench to pinch-hit.
- Joe Kelly will likely be shut down for the rest of the season to allow his body to heal and be as close to 100% for the postseason. This is an ongoing issue that has seen him being used on a limited basis this month. There doesn’t seem to be a specific issue aside suffering from being physically fatigued.
- Chi Chi Gonzalez was replaced by left-hander Kyle Freeland as the Rockies starting pitcher for tonight’s game. Freeland has faced the Dodgers 9 times in his career, allowing over 3 runs twice. One of those two outings being the last time he faced Los Angeles, where he gave up 8 runs in 3.2 innings pitched. The Dodgers, in the 30 games they’ve faced lefties in the 2nd half, have averaged 3.5 runs per game.
- Will Smith will catch Hyun-Jin Ryu tomorrow for the regular-season finale at Dodger Stadium. In the 5 games Smith has been his catcher, Ryu has a 5.81 ERA and a .837 OPS against.
