Post modified on December 8, 2024 at 8:04 p.m.: Some are wondering whether or not Alexander is a credible source. He is. But if it helps you feel better, here’s Jeff Passan confirming the Treinen signing per ESPN sources.

Original Post:

The Dodgers have had a busy Sunday night at the Winter Meetings, bringing back an important piece to their bullpen, signing Blake Treinen to a reported two-year, $22 million deal.

If you haven’t been following, here’s a quick recap of Sunday night for you: the Dodgers have reportedly signed outfielder Michael Conforto to a one-year, $17 million deal and then lost out on the Juan Soto sweepstakes when he signed a reported 15-year, $765 million deal, including a $75 million signing bonus, to play for the Mets.

KRPC 2 Houston’s Ari Alexander shares on X that his source hears that Treinen will be back in Dodger Blue through the 2026 season.

After missing all of the 2023 season with a right shoulder labrum and rotator cuff surgery, it was back to business for Treinen in 2024. In 50 games he was excellent, posting a 7-3 record, a 1.93 ERA and 0.943 WHIP. He saved one game for the Dodgers in the regular season, but saved three games in nine outings during the playoffs.

Trivia time: Who was the winning pitcher in Game 5 of the 2024 World Series, sealing the Dodgers’ eight championship in franchise history?

In case you didn’t know that it was Blake Treinen, now you do. He pitched 2.1 scoreless innings allowing just one hit along the way.

The Dodgers’ bullpen in 2025 has already potentially added Giovanny Gallegos, who signed on a minor-league deal earlier in the offseason.

Bullpen arms from 2024 that are expected to return to the bullpen and are set to be eligible for arbitration include: Brusdar Graterol, Michael Kopech, Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia. These players have until Jan. 9 to submit salary figures for arbitration. Hearings are set to take place between Jan. 27 and Feb. 14.

Anthony Banda and Ryan Brasier are on track to return to the Dodgers’ bullpen in 2025 as well.

Let’s not forget about pieces such as Ben Casparius and Edgardo Henriquez, who both could factor in throughout the season.

Treinen’s contract will take him through the age of 38 years old. He will enter his fifth season as a Dodger in 2025. In the previous four seasons, Treinen is 17-12 with a 2.29 ERA and 0.989 WHIP in Los Angeles, averaging 10.2 K/9.
