Dodgers Add Two Pitchers On Low Risk High Reward Deals
January 8, 2020Dodgers Reach Record Arbitration Agreement with NL MVP Cody Bellinger
January 10, 2020The Dodgers and nine of their arbitration-eligible players will have to submit what they believe should be their salaries for the 2020 season by 9 am PST today. It’s usually by this time when both parties will agree on a deal, whether it be one year or multiple, so to not send the figures to a panel of arbitrators to decide in a hearing what the player is worth.
The Dodgers hadn’t taken a case to an arb hearing since February of 2007 when Joe Beimel sought a $1.25 million deal. The Dodgers ended up winning, compensating Beimel to the tune of $912,500 for the year. So, the likelihood of both parties (players and team) agreeing on a figure by the deadline is high.
Here’s a list of the nine arb-eligible players with MLB Trade Rumors estimated salary next to them. When the actual figure becomes public, it’ll appear to the right of the estimated value.
Joc Pederson $8.5MM
Kiké Hernandez $5.5MM/$5.9MM
Pedro Baez $3.3MM
Corey Seager $7.1MM/$7.6MM
Chris Taylor $5.0MM
Max Muncy $4.6MM
Ross Stripling $2.3MM/$2.1MM
Cody Bellinger $11.6MM/$11.5MM (New MLB record for 1st time arb-eligible players)
Julio Urias $1.7MM/$1M
It’s good to note that even if both parties don’t come to terms and set a hearing date (sometime in February), negotiations can continue up until the time of the hearing. It generally isn’t likely but still a possibility.
