TL;DR - Scouting Report
The Lakers gave Shohei Ohtani and his wife Mamiko Tanaka with custom jerseys, shoutouts, and a big-screen moment in their 107-98 win over the Blazers. Fresh off an MVP season, Ohtani embraces LA life post-surgery.
Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!While Dodger fans scoured the internet frantically Sunday night, looking for any bit of news surrounding the team signing Teoscar Hernandez, or even Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani was out enjoying another LA staple, taking in the Lakers’ 107-98 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.
Ohtani no longer owns baseball’s biggest payday after Soto signed a $765 million deal with the Mets Sunday night. But, Ohtani doesn’t seem to care, either, rocking his traditional smile alongside his wife.
X did a fantastic job of capturing Ohtanis on their night out.
Among the highlights of the evening were a shoutout on Spectrum Sportsnet prior to the game, custom Lakers jerseys for he and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, a former professional basketball player in Japan and being shown on the big screen during the game, while being introduced by legendary Lakers PA announcer Lawrence Tanter.
The fans took notice, too. Do you think he paid for his seats? If so, tell us how much in the comments below.
Coming off his 50-50 season, as mentioned by Tanter, Ohtani is expected to slightly morph his role with the Dodgers in 2025. He had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder he suffered in Game 2 of the World Series on Oct. 26. This follows the surgery he had on his throwing elbow last offseason that prevented him from pitching throughout the 2024 season.
Still, Ohtani won the NL MVP award, posting a line of .310/.390/.646 with 54 HRs, 130 RBIs, 59 SBs, 134 Rs in 159 games, posting a WAR of 9.2.
