Kershaw and Bellinger Top MLB in Jersey Sales in 2018
September 30, 2018The LowDown: Dodgers Top Rox in Tiebreaker, Take Division Title for 6th Consecutive Year
October 2, 2018Game One
[FRIDAY] Hyun-Jin Ryu tosses a strong outing for the Dodgers in a must-win situation, securing a win against San Francisco to keep the Los Angeles on pace with Colorado for the division.
Ryu tossed six complete innings for the Dodgers, yielding only one run on four hits and a pair of walks. Ryu’s ledger totaled to end with three strikeouts to his credit. Ryu continues to show with each start that he is a very strong play, especially being placed behind Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler in the rotation.
The Dodgers’ bullpen pitched to near perfection following Ryu’s exit. While Scott Alexander, Pedro Baez, Alex Wood, Kenta Maeda, and Kenley Jansen pitched, only Baez and Maeda gave up base hits. Both pitchers only gave up one hit each, allowing no walks. Alexander, who didn’t allow a hit, did allow a walk.
The Dodgers’ offense faced Madison Bumgarner after he was held from a start earlier in the week, and didn’t disappoint. Justin Turner took Bumgarner deep for two-runs in the fifth inning, securing a 3-1 lead that would sustain to get the Dodgers the win on Friday night.
Dodgers defeat the Giants, 3-1. (Dodgers lead series, 1-0)
Game Two
[SATURDAY] Clayton Kershaw tosses through a long, hard-fought game to keep the Dodgers in it and ultimately lead the team to their sixth consecutive playoff berth with a series win against San Francisco.
Kershaw’s final line didn’t appear to be Kershaw-like, but it certainly didn’t impact the outcome in an absolute showing from the Dodgers’ offense. Kershaw went five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and no walks. Kershaw left the game with a tie score, meaning he was unable to pick up the win.
Ryan Madson, Alex Wood, Kenta Maeda, Zac Rosscup, and Kenley Jansen followed Clayton Kershaw after his five innings of work, giving up just one run collectively. The one run was charged to Zac Rosscup, who didn’t allow a hit.
The Dodgers’ offense was super-charged in the late stages of the game, shifting into a higher gear and handily beating the Giants down. Clayton Kershaw and Max Muncy led the team with two RBI’s each. The offense pieced together eighteen hits against the Giants’ pitching staff, posting a four-spot in the top of the ninth that would make sure the Dodgers take their sixth consecutive playoff berth.
Dodgers defeat the Giants, 10-6. (Dodgers lead series, 2-0)
Game Three
[SUNDAY] The Dodgers choose to throw Rich Hill instead of Walker Buehler, saving the young star for the later determined tiebreaker set for Monday afternoon, and the decision didn’t at all backfire as the Dodgers polish off the sweep with a laugher over the Giants.
Hill tossed seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits and striking out eight Giants batters in his outing. The performance was a strong one, making Dave Roberts and the Dodgers’ front office look like geniuses, and solidifying a spot for Hill in the postseason rotation.
The bullpen followed suit with Hill, continuing the shutout for the remaining two innings. J.T. Chargois and Julio Urias each took an inning, throwing a perfect inning and notching two strikeouts, respectively.
The Dodgers’ offense simply destroyed Andrew Suarez and the Giants’ bullpen on Sunday, posting fifteen runs on sixteen hits. The Dodgers’ lead hitter was undoubtedly Matt Kemp. The starting right fielder went a perfect 3 for 3 in the game, knocking in three RBI’s to tie Brian Dozier for the team’s lead in RBI’s in the game.
Dodgers defeat the Giants, 15-0. (Dodgers win series, 3-0)
