Lobaton, 34, is a 9-year major league veteran who has spent time with the Padres (2009), Rays (2011-2013), Nationals (2014-2017), and Mets (2018) and owns a .215/.293/.319/.612 batting line to go along with 47 doubles, 4 triples, 21 home runs, 107 RBIs, 109 runs scored, and a 293/121 K/BB ratio in 1,278 plate appearances in the majors. With the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma, Lobaton was hitting .236/.305/.434/.739 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 38 RBIs, 34 runs scored, and an 83/27 K/BB ratio in 318 plate appearances.
Lobaton will be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City where he will serve as depth behind Austin Barnes in the wake of the season-ending injury to catching prospect Keibert Ruiz.
