It’s a brand new four-part docuseries on MLB Network called “The Sounds of Baseball,” and who better to start Game 1, so-to-speak, than the Voice of Summer himself, Vin Scully.
The series will look back on the most memorable calls, personal anecdotes and stories of four legendary masters of the microphone.
The first episode, hosted by Bob Costas and Tom Verducci, airs Monday on MLB Network at 5 p.m. PT. After Scully, the three additional installments will be on former St. Louis Cardinals broadcaster Jack Buck, former Chicago Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray and current Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The dates and times for those episodes have yet to be announced.
Prior to Scully’s episode, MLB Network will air condensed versions some of Scully’s most iconic games, including two no-hitters: Hideo Nomo (9 a.m. PT) and Clayton Kershaw (1 p.m. PT).
Monday, June 8 also has some historical significance for Dodgers fans and Vin Scully. It will be 52 years to the date (6/8/68) when Scully called the game where Don Drysdale broke Walter Johnson’s consecutive scoreless innings streak of 55 2/3 innings.
Scully was a Dodgers’ broadcaster for 67 years and was behind the mic for all six World Series championships. He retired after the 2016 season.
