TL;DR - Scouting Report
The Dodgers sign versatile infielder David Bote to a minor-league deal. He’ll get a Spring Training invite as the team looks to boost depth.
Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!The Dodgers have reportedly signed infielder David Bote to a minor-league deal.
Bote, 31, played in 37 games last season for the Cubs, hitting .304/.333/.391 with no HRs and six RBIs.
Aram Leighton of Just Baseball broke the news on X.
He spent all six years of his MLB career with the Cubs, most notably hitting .257/.362/.422 with 11 HRs, 41 RBIs and five steals in six attempts during 127 games of the 2019 season.
Since that season, the infielder who primarily plays third base, but also can play at second base, has played in a combined 183 games over the next four seasons, or an average of just over 45 games per season.
Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy said he was open to the Dodgers bringing in a player of the caliber of Nolan Arenado to man third base in 2025.
The Cubs bought out Bote’s $7 million club option for $1 million, ending their seven-year partnership.
Bote likely won’t be that player, and while it’s possible that the Dodgers could pursue an Arenado or Alex Bregman to improve their third-base situation, it’s not likely.
It’s likely the Dodgers are paying attention to Bote’s last 175 plate appearances at the Major League level. In this sample size, he’s hitting .272/.320/.420. He’s the type of utility player the team likes to bring in as a rediscovery project.
Expect Bote to receive an invite for Spring Training.
