TL;DR - Scouting Report
Kike Hernandez avoided suspension for his iconic “We Don’t Give a F---” moment during the Dodgers’ 2024 NLDS win, revealing the story behind the viral f-bomb, boy did it energize the team and fans during their championship run.
Start the Rally: Tweet This Now!Without question, the Dodgers’ 2024 postseason run was memorable in so many ways, including, of course, a world championship. But, it all started with a different kind of bomb. No, not a home run, but an f-bomb. Hey, he didn’t give a f— and neither did the Dodgers or the city of Los Angeles.
But now Kike Hernandez revealed to The Shop on X that he was nearly suspended, thinking that his f-bomb would get edited out by a cough button, typically seven seconds of “on air safety” in radio, where live content could be edited out of a take.
But they were live, live. They had just come back from a two games to one deficit against the Padres in the NLDS, and eliminated them. The stadium was electric. Kike was electric, and there was no editing this feeling.
On behalf of Kike, thank you to his agent, Athlete Speakers, who spoke in his defense and got the punishment lightened up.
Here are his thoughts:
Kike on his fine and suspension (that wasn’t) for dropping an f-bomb on live TV:
“I did get fined for that. I was gonna get a heftier fine and a game suspension. Having a good agent and having a good player union came in handy. They got rid of the suspension and they got to lower the fine a little bit, which was good.”
Kike on the his live thoughts leading up to the f-bomb in the moment:
“I did have to apologize, which you could say (was) 50/50 on the honesty part of it. What I answered was my honest answer from the bottom of my heart and I didn’t think there was any other way of describing the team. I felt like I had already taken a while to think about my answer, because I didn’t want to answer it that way. But when I asked if we were live he said yes and I figured, ‘There’s got to be some sort of delay.’ There was no delay and I was on live TV cussing. And there was a lot of criticizing that.”
Kike on the fan reaction to the f-bomb:
“I think it made the postseason run a little more epic for the fans because they bought into that mentality, and they had fun with it too.”
